Ruffles - Looking For A Home to Call His Own!

Meet Ruffles- the gorgeous gentleman border collie!
Ruffles is a 2 year old beautiful black and white border collie. As you can see from his picture he is quite the looker. He is sweet as pie. A little slow to warm up to new people but is quite the well behaved laid back young man. He’s heartworm negative thank goodness and is a dream boy looking for a home to call his own. He is being boarded at a Kennel so we don’t know if he is housetrained. Ruffles will need basic obedience training which he should pick up quickly.
Please contact Kelly if you are interested in applying to adopt Ruffles. Call 281-974-9232 or email kellykm22@yahoo.com.

Sheba - Looking For My Forever Home!

My name is Sheba and I am a little over 1 year old. I am a Black lab mix and am more than likely mixed with Newfoundland or Great Pyrenees due to my large size (No one really knows for sure). I weigh close to 85 pounds, and am full grown at this point.

Sheba is a sweet girl and enjoys affection and attention, but we have enjoyed the fact that she appears to be out of the rambunctious puppy stage! She is crate trained, house trained, and gets along well with other dogs. She has obviously lived with a family before! She likes being indoors with us, but is good about going outside to play as well. She is good on a leash, making for easy walks and she has displayed no signs of unwanted chewing or barking. She loves to lounge around!

Sheba is updated on all her shots, is spayed, and is microchipped. She is updated on flea medication and heartworm preventative. She is heartworm positive, but is low occult, which means as long as she stays on a monthly heartworm preventative, she should do fine.

Based on our experience with our 3 other dogs, Sheba would probably do fine in a home with other dogs or would be just as happy taking all the attention for herself as the only dog in your home!

If interested in adopting Sheba, please contact Kelly at Kellykm22@yahoo.com or 281.974.9232.

She is going to be spayed in a week and following her surgery she will be ready for her new adoptive/foster family!

Pepper is wonderful with children of all ages and other pets. Please see attached pictures . . if you know of anyone who might be interested in providing a good home for Pepper, please let me know!

Buddy

Buddy ID#861271 - Buddy is a 5 month old lab/hound mix. He is house trained, cat, dog and kid friendly and the most loyal boy imaginable. He walks well on a leash, is kennel trained, sits and drops things on command. His favorite thing to do is sleep on your feet or put his head in your lap. He is getting pretty good at retrieving and enjoys a lake to swim in. He is a wonderful companion. E-mail Elizabeth at elimedwick@yahoo.com for all the details about Buddy.

Sammy

Sammy ID#A866326 - Sammy is the perfect pup. PetSmart Adoption Counselor Kelly is not sure why he is still at BARC! She was with him on Saturday at the 290 PetSmart and she decided we needed to highlight this great pup! She said, "he is adorable, sweet and a cuddle bug, what more could you want?" Sammy is about 4 months old and still has a lot of growing to do. He was turned in on August 1st. He has spent too much of his puppy life at BARC! Are you the family that would be perfect for Sammy? If so e-mail Kelly at kellykm22@yahoo.com

Bo

Bo ID#A869705 - Bo needs a foster family ASAP! He has a tumor on his "privates" that needs to be examined and addressed. The surgery can most likely be performed at BARC, but he will need a clean calm place to heal. He is a sweet Collie/Chocolate Retriever mix that smiles every time you walk by. His tumor gives some discomfort, but he still loves to run and play with the other dogs in the yard. If you are interested in fostering Bo and helping him through his neuter surgery that will be a little more extensive than most, he (and his volunteer friends) would be forever
grateful! For more information on fostering Bo e-mail Julie at juliekeaton5@aol.com

Trixie

Trixie ID#A867872 - Trixie is a sweet Poodle mix that has had a rough start! She has contracted a cold at BARC, but is on the mend. She is looking for a forever home to get her out of the kennel environment permanently! Trixie is about 4 years old and she has a lot of life left in her! Heather will fill you in on ALL of Trixie's details! Just give her a call at 832-641-6936.

K.C.

K.C. (a.k.a. Tripod) ID#A868714 - K.C. was turned in to BARC by his owner on September 1st. He said he could no longer afford to care for him. : (

K.C. is special in MANY ways, he is sweet, gentle and playful! The other more obvious trait is that he only has 3 legs. We are not sure if he lost his leg after an accident or if he was born without, but either way he doesn't care! He is a happy-go-lucky dog that is ready for a forever family! He is an alpha dog so it would be best if he was the first dog and helped to raise any other dogs from "puppy hood." ; ) If you would like more info on K.C. e-mail Paige at paigejm@aol.com

Ralphy's Been Adopted

Thanks to the persistance of the great volunteers looking after him and Ralphy's natural charm he has finally found his forever home!
The following is a note to volunteer Nancy from his adoptive family: "I am so glad we adopted Ralphy. He is such a sweet dog. At first, he seemed a little skittish about all the chaos & noise my kids create. But he settled in very well and seems to like living with us. We all adore him. He's doing really well -- eating better and has gained a little over 2 pounds. An especially cute thing he does is carry my daughter's stuffed animals around in his mouth. He doesn't chew on them, he just carries them around to different rooms and he likes to lay with them. He has attached himself to one little stuffed dog that he sleeps with. It's very cute.
Thanks again for encouraging me to adopt Ralphy -- he's great. "

Barc Starz - Beauty is More Than Skin Deep

Barc Starz is a weekly newsletter showcasing animals heartpicked by staff and volunteers at Barc. Below you will see a list of some of our special Barc Starz currently up for adoption.

MOST OF THE ANIMALS ARE PERFECT -- OWNED BEFORE, USED TO LIVING AND LOVING HUMANS, MEDICALLY FIT. BUT THERE ARE A FEW HANDPICKED BY VOLUNTEERS THAT SCORE LESS WELL ON THESE "RETAIL READY" MARGINS, BUT SCORE HIGHER IN MATTERS OF THE HEART. THOSE OF US WILLING TO DO LABOR AT A HIGH KILL ANIMAL SHELTER ARE MOTIVATED BY A SAVING AGENDA, AND WE SEE BEAUTY WHERE OTHERS DO NOT. WE ALSO KNOW THERE IS REWARD IN HELPING A DEPENDENT BEING OVERCOME BY AN IMPERFECTION. LOVE IS NOT SKIN DEEP. YOU DECIDE HOUSTON. LOOK AT THE BARC STARZ AND IF IT IS NOT AN ANIMAL THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE FIRST CHOSEN, CAN YOU SEE THE SPECIALNESS IN HIM/HER ONCE THE HUMAN SPONSOR DESCRIBES WHY HE/SHE CAME TO LOVE THE ANIMAL?

THANKS FOR LOOKING, LISTENING, AND LOVING!
The Barc Starz Team

Barc Starz - Maude

Maude -
Poor Raul, a college student home for the summer who
came to BARC because he wants to be a veterinarian. Raul comes every weekend, both days, and slaves at the behest of the vet, vet techs, the volunteers, but especially the volunteer coordinator (who makes a drill sergeant look like Power Puff Annie). Maude came into BARC last
Sunday, turned in by her owner, she has flea allergy dermatitis on one haunch, easily fixed, but a staff member said she was imperfect and no one would want her. Raul took her home to his mom (after calling her!) and she is on the mend easy and definitely a beautiful beautiful being,
like Raul. Interested?

Barc Starz - Debbie Jean

Debbie Jean -
Elizabeth has an affinity for the sweetest dogs at
BARC. She met Debbie Jean a month ago when all DJ could do was scoot on her tummy she was so afraid. Elizabeth worked with her, sitting on
the ground, the parking lot, the grass and just waiting out the passing of fear. Which happened. DJ is a lovely, fun, sweetheart little girl
(5 months old?) who resides in A ward and would give multiple kisses to anyone wanting a best friend for life.
Ask evitek@yahoo.com all about DJ!

Barc Starz - Sergio

Fran likes Sergio (as does most everyone else!). He came into BARC absolutely matted and furry and huge looking. Sweet isn't good enough to describe him. He's about 2 years old, a chow mix, and one of the nicest gentlemen at BARC right now. Everyone loves to take him out and just let him enjoy life -- he inspires joy. He also tested the lowest positive we have ever seen on the heartworm test -- we all looked at it and said, "How did one worm get there?" He is definitely a candidate for the soft treatment -- just heartguard once a month, like usual. Note the before and after -- Fran couldn't stand the mats and took him to her groomer -- voila' - Sergio Shorn! Fran has lots to say about Sergio at foyle67@hotmail.com

Barc Starz - Shorty

Shorty came into BARC May 21 happy and healthy and cute
as a bug. Barb thought him an easy adoption -- a slam dunk. She also
thought Catahoula people might be interested. She also, apparently,
thought the world was flat. Shorty got neutered then had an accident,
unknown as unobserved. He now has lost the use of his left hind leg,
has some kind of skin disease, a cough and was slated to be euthanized
as no longer adoptable. Barb took him into foster care and is having
her vet look at him. He is loving, small (24 pounds?), and
runs/plays/missteps as if the world is a lovely place. Ask Barb about
Shorty at sands_barbara@hotmail.com

Barc Starz - Sherry and Dorey

Sherry and Dorey.

Raul got to pick a second BARC STAR cause what he does for BARC animals, staff, and volunteers is way outta this world. So quiet, so willing to do anything....so lovely. He and his
family own 3 Rottweilers, so who does Raul pick? A 3 and 5 year old set of female terriers -- 15 pounds? 19 pounds? Why did Raul pick there, out of the 140 dogs to pick? He said he liked their energy, their sweetness, and their size. Good enough for us! Ask about Sherry and Dorey at:samano06@gmail.com

Barc Starz - Bee Bop

Bee Bop. A black and white 3 month lab/pit mix, Bee Bop came in
plump, happy, healthy, then dwindled in our kennel environment (lots of
stress, not much exercise, human companionship). So we put her in our
special 3 kennel ward where she gets extra loving and food and meds
from volunteers and staff. Bee Bop is everyone's BARC STAR as she is a denizen
of the South Baydock BARC STAR HOPE kennels. Ask Barb about Bee Bop at:
sands_barbara@hotmail.com - Reference Tag #A862645.

Barc Starz - Moses

Kathy loves big dogs, big gentle dogs, big huggy, cuddly
gentle dogs. And Moses is one. Last weekend Kathy was walking B ward
and stopped and exclaimed, "No kennel card? Who is this dog? Did
someone just dump him at BARC and walk away?" She pulled him out,
played with him, she loved on him, he loved on her......instant
connection. Gentle, loving, scared. Want someone to love you and be loyal? Ask Kathy about Moses at: kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net
